In Xinyi’s current artistic creations, she is committed to breaking away from the anthropocentric mindset, directing her focus towards the diverse entities and groups coexisting around us. Xinyi’s exploration involves a deep study of plants, including their growth, reproduction, and decay. She seeks to understand the interwoven fragility, resilience, and cyclical nature within the structure of life. Using plants as a starting point, Xinyi’s artworks reveal symbiotic relationships between all existing elements and herself.
Breaking free from anthropocentrism allows Xinyi to see more fragmented landscapes, such as a world of multi-species coexistence, the overlap of living beings, the interweaving of humans and non-humans, multiple layers of time, and the accompanying uncertainties. Therefore, choosing plants is also a reflection of her current mind state. Xinyi perceives herself as a plant, uncontrolled, unlabeled, and enjoying the spontaneity that things and the environment bring to her.
